Step 7 of 7
PS3 System Settings and Software Download Update
The PlayStation 3 is a sophisticated piece of kit with all manner of settings to choose from, as you will have seen on the previous page “Activate Safe Mode“.
It’s important therefore to set up your PS3 correctly to avoid errors or a lack of full functionality.
In this section, we are are only going to be covering the settings that appear to be causing the most problems for users. These are:
- System Settings
- Network Settings
- Video Settings
Because of the variety of possible configurations, it’s easy to get confused, not to mention being quite daunting for a newbie to all these unfamiliar settings. However, do bear in mind that the purpose of the next couple of pages is to help you check your existing system settings if you are experiencing problems with such things as DLNA connection. So, review the the sections that are relevant to you.
Improper setting can cause your PS3 to stop functioning or to experience errors. For example, one common error that appears again and again occurs when a PS3 is connected to a HDTV but configured for a standard television. It will either not display or will not display properly.
Make sure therefore, all your game settings, including audio and video settings, are set correctly.
If you are following through this 7 step Quick Repair Guide, you will have already performed a “Restore Default Settings” during the Safe Mode and Reboot procedure (Step 6) which will have restored settings to basic “straight out of the box” settings.
This Step 7 is a belt and braces follow through to ensure that you’ve properly set up your system in respect of the main settings, as listed below, that cause many of the problems.
